Partners Help Remodel Shelter

MVCAP’s emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence received an extensive makeover thanks to community collaboration.

The shelter, at a confidential location in Preble County, needed repairs and updates before it could open as part of the agency’s newest program. MVCAP contracted with Preble County Habitat for Humanity to install new vinyl flooring and carpet. In return, the Habitat chapter provided new kitchen appliances and other items.

A Maid for You was contracted to deep clean the facility and PLE Security installed new cameras, keypads and a DVR system.

Meanwhile, partner TCC Verizon District Manager Joshua Owens brought his team out to clear the shelter’s basement.

“They moved heavy equipment and furniture and ensured all discarded items were ready for trash pickup,” said Domestic Violence Services Director Courtney Griffith. “It would not have been possible without Joshua’s leadership and his team’s dedication.”

Owens also reached out to local businesses such as Wal-Mart and Tractor Supply Company for additional donations for the clean out.

While in shelter, survivors receive case management and other needed services. Services are also available for survivors who are not in need of shelter.
