Dayton-born educator Lauretta Williams joined the Miami Valley Community Action Partnership Board of Trustees in April.

Ms. Williams’ distinguished career in Maryland public schools included serving as a classroom teacher, building principal and leadership consultant as well as an active parent.

After earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Dayton, Ms. Williams moved to Maryland to earn her master’s degree at Howard University. She excelled in her career with Prince George’s County Public Schools.

During her career, she was honored as an exemplary classroom teacher and nominated for the National Council of Negro Women, Ind. She also served on the Maryland Principals’ Academy and in other leadership positions. She continued to serve as an educational consultant after retirement and returned to Dayton to be closer to her mother.

“I am most excited about the opportunity to be a part of and to support a group of people who strive to improve life for others,” she said.

Locally, Ms. Williams also volunteers with the Dayton Branch NAACP Education Committee, the Omega CDC Advisory Committee and Dayton Public Schools Convening Partners.

Like all Community Action Agencies, MVCAP is required to have a three-part board. A third of our board members must from each of the following: Public Sector (typically elected officials or their designees), Private Sector (typically business leaders), and the Low-Income Sector (people living in poverty or people providing direct service to them). MVCAP also works to include representatives from all four of its core counties.

Ms. Williams represents the Private Sector and lives in Montgomery County.
