MVCAP Leadership Focuses on Teamwork

Miami Valley CAP’s directors not only lead their individual departments, but also serve as part of one shared leadership team.

Directors from throughout the agency came together for a full-day leadership retreat May 1 at the Aileron campus in Troy.

“The retreat created space to talk about how we continue building a stronger one-team culture, support consistent expectations, and move agency priorities forward together,” said President and CEO Erin Jeffries. “We focused on learning, reflection, honest conversation, and stronger alignment.”

Guest speaker Duane Baggerly presented Insights Discovery in the morning. Insights Discovery helped directors better understand their own communication preferences and the preferences of others. This gave the team a shared framework for strengthening trust, improving communication, and working more effectively across departments.

In the afternoon, the team moved from awareness to application through a session titled Leading with Clarity, Communication, and Agency-Wide Alignment. Topics included leading self under pressure, leading others with clarity and accountability, navigating communication and conflict, managing up, choosing the right communication rhythm, breaking down silos, and owning agencywide outcomes.

“The retreat was designed as both a leadership reset and a professional development opportunity,” Jeffries said. “We took the time to step away from daily operations and focus on how we lead ourselves, support one another, communicate clearly, and strengthen consistency across programs and locations.”
