MVCAP Staff Present at State Conference
Leaders from Miami Valley CAP were among the presenters at a statewide conference last month.
President and CEO Erin Jeffries and Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Katie O’Donoghue-Ly led two sessions together for the Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies’ (OACAA) Annual Summer Conference.
Other presenters and panelists included Chief Financial Officer Deborah Donnelly, Deputy Chief Operating Officer Karen Berry, Greene County Director Brent Robinson and Domestic Violence Services Director Courtney Griffith. This summer, the conference was held in Dayton.
Jeffries and O’Donoghue-Ly discussed leadership and organizational development with full audiences. Topics included:
- Leading with clarity and building trust,
- Self-leadership and emotional intelligence,
- How departmental leadership connects to agency-wide outcomes,
- Strengthening cross-team communications,
- Breaking down structural, informational and relational silos.
Donnelly served on a panel discussing when to use external fiscal services to increase organizational capacity. Donnelly presented alongside two executive directors from the Ohio Community Action network.
Berry presented alongside IMPACT Community Action Agency’s Beth Urban with Robinson added as a panelist on the topic of navigating the transition from peer to supervisor.
Griffith spoke as part of a panel – moderated by Jeffries — on Community Action’s role in addressing domestic violence. Many of the services provided by Community Action Agencies address challenges often connected to domestic violence. Additionally, escaping an unsafe situation also often means confronting significant economic barriers.
The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies (OACAA) consists of 48 member agencies who serve every community in the state with programs designed to alleviate poverty and help low-income families and individual achieve economic self-sufficiency.
