Two Join MVCAP Board
Two experienced non-profit leaders have joined the Board of Trustees of Miami Valley CAP.
Daisy Nease represents Greater Dayton Premier Management on the low-income sector of the board. We Care Arts Executive Director Katie Neubert joins the board for a one-year term as a special program of Leadership Dayton under the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Nease serves as an Affordable Housing Compliance Analyst and has more than 25 years’ experience in the sector. She sees serving on the board as an opportunity to give back, collaborate with other leaders and “support an organization whose mission aligns with my personal and professional commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals and families in need.”
“I have seen firsthand the positive impact that organizations like MVCAP have on improving lives by providing essential services, promoting self-sufficiency, and creating opportunities for those facing economic challenges,” Nease said.
Nease added that she hopes her experience in affordable housing will be helpful to MVCAP and she looks forward to learning from her fellow board members.
Nease is a wife and mother of four who said her family has taught her the importance of compassion, resilience, patience and leading by example.
Neubert is the third Executive Director of We Care Arts to complete the Leadership Dayton program. Graduates of the program join a local board for a one-year term and she was matched with MVCAP. Neubert became familiar with MVCAP in a previous position with Prevent Blindness, she said.
“While many people recognize the agency for helping meet immediate needs, I was impressed by the breadth of MVCAP’s work in helping individuals build long-term stability and self-sufficiency,” she said. “The more I learn about MVCAP, the more I appreciate that it is not only helping people navigate today’s challenges, but also creating opportunities that strengthen our community for the future.”
Neubert said after seeing the world through many different lenses, her belief in the power of community led her to pursue a career in nonprofit leadership.
“I believe every one of us within our lifetimes is both the person who needs a hand up and the person who can offer one,” she added.
Under the Leadership Dayton program, Neubert will serve on the board’s private sector. By law, Community Action Agency boards are composed of three sectors: public (elected officials or their designees), private (business leaders) and low-income (those living in poverty or those who directly serve them. MVCAP’s board also includes representation from the four core counties the agency serves: Darke, Greene, Montgomery and Preble.
