WHO: The National Jobs for All Coalition and several local nonprofit, religious, employment and neighborhood organizations.
WHAT: A Town Hall Meeting to discuss such issues as poverty, unemployment, health care and others and how they impact our local community.
WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.
WHERE: The UTS Center for Urban Ministry, 1516 Salem Ave. in Dayton.
WHY: The meeting will feature testimony and discussion on the impact of long-term unemployment and poverty on communities. Presentations will discuss jobs, the minimum wage, health care and other issues.
The special guest speaker is U.S. Representative John Conyers of Michigan, currently the longest-serving member of Congress. He recently announced that in 2016 he would seek election to his 27th consecutive term in Congress.
A Founding Member and Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman Conyers has been a major proponent of more than 100 pieces of major legislation, including the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, the Motor Voter Bill of 1993, the Alcohol Warning Label Act of 1988 and many others.
