The Summer Crisis Program, which provides electric bill payment assistance to eligible families, begins Monday, June 4. In previous years the program, administered by the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area, began in July. Due to the milder winter and more people signing up for the PIPP Plus payment program, additional funds are available for the Summer Crisis Program. The program will continue through Tuesday, Aug. 31, or until all funds are exhausted.
“This year, for the first time, households with a disconnection notice will qualify for assistance if the household income meets the program guidelines,” said Joyce E. Price, Vice President & COO of the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area. “Household income must be at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, which is $46,100 for a family of four.”
Also eligible for assistance are households with a member whose doctor has verified that they would benefit from having an air conditioner. Households with a member age 60 or over may also qualify.
Eligible customers may receive up to $250 for an emergency payment and/or air conditioner. In order to apply for assistance, customers must provide:
- Income for the primary applicant and all household members over age 18.
- ID and Social Security Cards for the primary applicant and all household members.
- Documented proof of a chronic medical condition signed by a licensed physician or registered practitioner (if applicable).
- Individuals that will benefit from assistance from medical equipment powered by electricity (if applicable).
- Disconnection notice in the name of a current household member (if applicable).
Beginning Friday, June 1, Montgomery County customers may make an appointment to determine household eligibility by calling the automated appointment line at 1-866-504-7379. Beginning June 4, Community Action Partnership will accept a limited number of walk-in customers at the 719 S. Main St. office each weekday beginning at 8 a.m. Customers may also be seen at the Job Center, 1111 S. Edwin C. Beginning Friday, June 1, Greene County customers may also call 1-866-504-7379 to make an appointment at the Greene County office, 1855 Bellbrook Rd. in Xenia.
