Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area will again provide free tax preparation assistance at its offices at 719 S. Main St. in Dayton and at the Youth Empowerment Center at 716 E. Main St. in Trotwood. Workers who had children living with them and earned less than $48,000 in 2013 may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and/or the Child Tax Credit (CTC), refundable tax credit available to eligible workers and their families. Single individuals without children living with them and who earned less than $14,000 in 2013 may also qualify.
At Community Action Partnership and other tax sites, IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers work one-on-one with families and individuals to help file their tax returns and ensure that they receive the tax credits for which they qualify. In addition, some sites can direct their customers to no-fee bank accounts, credit repair services or financial education classes.
Tax assistance is available at Community Action Partnership beginning Tuesday, Jan. 28. Appointments will be made Monday through Thursday at the Dayton office and on Saturday at the Youth Empowerment Center.
Customers should bring the following to their appointment:

  • W-2 forms;
  • 1099 forms (interest, earnings as an independent contractor);
  • Unemployment form;
  • Proof of childcare payments and tax ID for the childcare provider;
  • Social Security card for each dependent;
  • Other IRS forms as appropriate;
  • Last year’s tax return (if available);
  • Bank account and routing number for direct deposit;
  • State-issued photo ID.
