WHO: Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area (CAP), Fifth Third Bank, and local families.
WHAT: “Empowerment Saturday,” an event that will provide free tax filing assistance and financial literacy information to the community.
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: The Community Action Partnership office, 719 S. Main St. in Dayton.
WHY: During the event, IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers work one-on-one with families and individuals to help file their tax returns and ensure that they receive the tax credits for which they qualify, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.
The event will include refreshments and prizes for the kids. Fifth Third Bank will provide free informational sessions every half hour on budgeting, fraud prevention, identity theft and more. Bank representatives will also provide one-on-one, private financial counseling for those who need it.
CAP will have program information available, including information on signing up for health care coverage.
