WHAT: The Poverty Rally for Truth, held in conjunction with the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign’s March to Fulfill the Dream.
WHEN: Monday, May 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The marchers are scheduled to arrive at 11:30 a.m., with a program to follow at noon.
WHERE: The Community Action Partnership parking lot on Lincoln Street, just north of the Dayton office at 719 S. Main St. in Dayton.
WHY: The Poverty Rally for Truth is an effort to bring a face to poverty and the human rights that are neglected for those affected by it. The march began in New Orleans and is coming through Dayton on the way to its final destination in Detroit. Visitors to the rally will hear from marchers from around the country who are working for the economic rights of poor people. They may also participate in “Truth Booth” testimonials and put on record issues surrounding their personal experiences with poverty while showing their support and commitment to ending poverty throughout the Greater Dayton Area. The event also includes free food, information tables and student displays. It is free and open to the public.
