DAYTON — Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area, will proudly hold its graduation ceremony for participants in the “Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’ By World” program on Monday, October 9, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Mount Enon Baptist Church, 1501 W. Third St., Dayton. The 16-week course, co-facilitated by CAP Dayton’s Director of Self Sufficiency, LaVar Glover, helps adults to overcome poverty by building their resources for a more prosperous life for themselves, their families, and their communities. Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and other local dignitaries will also be in attendance.
Glover, a native Daytonian, received his degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati, where he was a standout athlete, and was drafted into the NFL, playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. After retiring from football, Glover worked with youth before joining CAP and heading up the agency’s “Getting Ahead” program. “Getting Ahead is an agenda-free, facilitated learning experience,” Glover said. “Its participants are called investigators –investigating the issues and causes of poverty within their lives and community. This graduating class has truly bought into the process and fully owns the title.”
