Do your New Year’s Resolutions include starting a new business? Do you know all that goes into starting a new venture? Where can you get the information you need?
These and other questions should be answered by anyone who is thinking about starting a business. Persons who may have a good idea but need help getting started should enroll in Community Action Partnership’s Micro-Enterprise Business Development and Training Program.
The class helps persons interested in starting and maintaining their own business take the first step by learning to write a business plan. Through the program, participants learn valuable tips from experienced accountants, bankers, attorneys and other professionals.
“The program has been developed to provide an opportunity for Montgomery County residents to realize their dream of starting their own business,” says LaSandra Wright, Director of Micro-Enterprise and Computer Literacy for the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area. “The goals of the Micro-Enterprise Business Development Program are to provide motivated and committed individuals the opportunity to receive business training and ongoing technical assistance.”
Course topics include the legal forms of business ownership; setting up and managing business reporting systems; understanding financial statements; insuring your business; marketing your business and more.
Grace Malone, owner of the Ms. Grace Hair and Spa Salon on Salem Ave., is a past student of the program. She is grateful for a program that helps sometimes-uncertain entrepreneurs.
“There’s help out there,” Malone says. “You don’t have to do it alone. I’m glad there are agencies and programs that can help you along the way.”
The next ten-week Micro-Enterprise class session begins Thursday, Jan. 5, and continues through Thursday, March 9. Classes meet on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Community Action Partnership office, 719 S. Main St. in Dayton.
Enrollment for the Micro-Enterprise Business Development and Training Program is limited and pre-registration is required.
